Error 1058 - Could Not Start Automatic Updates

Trouble:
One of our reader Catherine reported that she can not start automatic updates on local computer, when ever she tries to start Automatic Update service receives the following error.

Error 1058: The service cannot be started, either because it is disabled or because it has no enabled devices associated with it."


This problem might be caused due to some vundo trojans which disable windows updates on your computer and will not let windows update service to get start again. It could be due to some stopped services which acts as dependent service for windows update.

Let’s see how can you start windows update service and remove the error 1058

There are different solutions which can solve windows update problem so we will discuss about some easy methods

The most possible causes behind this error 1058 – could not start automatic updates are:
  • Your System may be infected with some malwares called "Vundo" trojans
  • Remote Procedure Call service is stopped you will need to start it to start Automatic Updates


Go to Start > Run, type “services.msc” and press enter. This will open an service management windows. In order to start automatic updates service please check whether following services are already started.

  • Background Intelligent Transfer Service (BITS)

  • Cryptographic Services

  • Remote Procedure Call (RPC)

  • System Restore Service

Even after starting all the services mentioned above if still the automatic updates service does not start then it means that your pc is infected by vundo trojans.
